Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a gateway to Central Asia and falling on both ends of River Indus, has got a strategic position of joining borders with Afghanistan and China and also connected to Iran and India through other Provinces of Pakistan. The cultural and religious relation between China and Pakistan has an old history, covering more than two thousand years. Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa once remained a hub of Buddhist learning from where the Mahayanism spread to China & Central Asia. China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is infact a framework of connectivity of the whole region, not only benefitting Pakistan & China; rather all neighboring countries including Afghanistan, Iran, India & Central Asia. CPEC is also a journey of economic prosperity in the globalized world leading towards peace, growth of economy and dynamic future in the region. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government, due to its locational advantage, has offered multiple Investment opportunities to the Chinese Investors in the wake of its huge untapped potential in all sectors. Economic cooperation between China and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to play a vital role in ushering a new era of prosperity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Investment of China in the projects is identified by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in different sectors to uplift the economic strength of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on one hand and immensely beneficial for the people. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has abundant natural capital in the sectors like Hydel Generation, Oil & Gas, Mines & Minerals, Infrastructure Development, Agriculture, Livestock, Tourism, Information Technology and Industries. In some of the sectors like Hydel Generation Oil & Gas Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has 57% and 50% potential respectively of the total of Pakistan. The Provincial Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is determined to change the investment climate of the Province by showcasing its untapped potential in different sectors. The Planning & Development Department in collaboration with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Economic Zone Development Company has arranged a two (02) day investment Road Show at Beijing (China) on 18th 19th April, 2017. Mr. Parvez Khattak, Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa along with a team of Ministers, Senior Officers, Head of Departments, Experts and Private Investors
were present on the occasion. Embassy of Pakistan in China has also played a major role in arranging the IRS and by inviting major business elites of China to benefit the Investment Potential of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was a jam packed gathering in China, Trade Hotel. Ambassador of Pakistan in China-Mr. Masood Khalid was also present on the occasion. The Chinas state enterprises and private entrepreneur have shown their keen interest in signing MOUs with the GoKP. It was the first ever opportunity of showcasing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa potential in China; receiving warm response by the Chinas State / Private sectors. Overall eighty two (82) MOUs worth US$ 24.373 billion have been signed in the presence of Mr. Parvez Khattak, Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The PTI led Government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa headed by Mr. Parvez Khattak, has a credit to arrange such a successful Road Show in China-attracting a handsome investment. Implementation of MOUs is likely to change the fate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by proving it a destination of investment with quite lucrative incentives under the Industrial Policy, 2016. MOUs were signed for mutual cooperation in the sectors of Agriculture, Energy & Power, Higher Education, Housing, Industries, IT, KPEZDMC / Industries, Local Government, Mines & Minerals, Roads, Transport, Urban Development & WSSP.
